About the artist

Through two archetypes - the mountain and the tree - abstraction and figurative painting merge into a single poetic and metaphysical vision of the artist.

“In 2013 I settled in a small town steeped in the spirit of the Middle Ages, in the very heart of Tuscany. Here I reappraised the old Italian masters of Siena’s trecento school. Continually drawing inspiration from this inexhaustible source, I create my works in oil, laying down threads that link past and present, tradition and innovation, collective heritage and a deeply personal sensibility, always striving to find a simple code open to everyone,” the artist says.

Viktorija Skafaru’s artistic field of inquiry encompasses the search for structural yet essential forms.

Working with forms revived from very different cultures - 14th-century Tuscan painting, Orthodox icons, and the Japanese sumi-e tradition—she develops her own original artistic language, rich with the meditative atmosphere suspended in time.

Viktorija Skafaru’s art offers viewers the opportunity to detach from the noise of frenetic everyday life, to immerse themselves in the meditative silence of her paintings, and to take a few steps along the path of their own inner journey in a world whispered through the language of art.

The painter lives and works in San Gimignano (Tuscany), Italy.

She acquired the fundamentals of academic drawing and painting at the historic “Guboja” art studio in Klaipėda. After completing art history studies at the Vilnius Academy of Arts (2008), she moved to Italy, where she continued her painting studies privately. Since 2012 she has participated in exhibitions and international art fairs. In 2018 she presented her work for the first time in Lithuania, at the 2nd World Lithuanian Art Exhibition “Horizons of Creativity” (curated by the Lithuanian Art Museum). One of her most significant recent group exhibitions was at the Malraux Contemporary Art Center “La Base” in Chambéry, included in the program of the 2024 Lithuanian Cultural Season in France (curator N. J. Miller). She has held solo exhibitions in Italy, France, and Lithuania. Since 2017, the painter has held an official permit to work in public spaces in San Gimignano (UNESCO). From 2025 she will take part in international plein-air sessions in Austria, the Czech Republic, and Lithuania.

Her works are held in official collections: the Lithuanian Art Museum in Vilnius, the St. Martin Shields Institute Collection in Florence, the gallery of the Monastery Ensemble in Český Krumlov (Czech Republic), and the ArtCompensa Art Fund.
