Peeter Krosmann is a multifaceted artist whose creative path has been profoundly shaped by his environment. Upon relocating to Kaunas, Lithuania, the city emerged as a major wellspring of inspiration in his artistic pursuits. Thanks to his keen sensitivity, Krosmann absorbs the essence of his surroundings and mirrors it in his work, granting viewers a renewed way of seeing their familiar urban settings. The relationship between Krosmann and Kaunas illustrates the powerful impact that place can have in shaping and redefining an artist’s perspective and subject matter.

Though urban landscapes might appear to be a conventional choice, Krosmann’s treatment renders them far from ordinary. When he arrived in Kaunas, his outsider’s gaze quickly picked out subtle beauty within the city's architecture and districts, often drawing inspiration from contemporary structures rather than concentrating solely on the historic Old Town. Through his paintings, Krosmann unveils unlikely viewpoints and compositions, depicting the city beneath the twilight of winter, aglow at night, or alive with vivid sunlight—portrayals that subvert traditional expectations.

Krosmann’s renditions of Kaunas invite locals to experience their city anew. His distinctive approach emphasizes the contrasts and allure of urban existence, manipulating light and color to conjure both the tangible and poetic qualities of city life. He turns ordinary moments into visually arresting and emotionally charged works, prompting viewers to pause and find beauty in the evolving city around them.

Peeter Krosmann hails from Tartu, Estonia. His artistic education began at Konrad Mägi Studio in 1989 before he completed a bachelor’s degree in painting at the University of Tartu. Since 2000, Krosmann has instructed students in painting, illustration, animation, and comic art at the Tartu Art School. Widely regarded as an advocate for traditional genres such as portrait and landscape painting, he excels at working from observation and is skilled in both lithography and graffiti, in addition to creating comics. In recent years, he has continued to seek out new avenues in painting and abstract drawing.
