"K. Česonytė’s paintings are variations on Expressionist painting: characterized by a trembling touch, energetic brushstrokes, and expressive paint textures with which she often seems to 'sculpt' figures, objects, and landscape elements. In terms of genre, the scope of her work is quite traditional. Landscapes predominate, though the artist has also painted a series of still lifes, numerous urban scenes, and the occasional stylized portrait. Yet, other aspects of K. Česonytė’s painting align her less with classical modernist art and more with the imagery of the contemporary, media-saturated world. 'My tools are the computer and virtual space,' she says. The visual imagery in her paintings derives not from reality itself, but from a virtual—or secondary—reality. For this creative artist, however, that serves merely as a springboard or a starting signal that liberates both imagination and hand. In her work, this secondary reality—or a chance motif—and the artist’s imagination most often intertwine inseparably. Images suggested by modern media are transformed into authentic visions, deeply and sensitively experienced by the painter herself."

About this artwork+

The painting depicts a serene winter scene where skeletal trees rise sparsely from a blanket of soft, textured snow. The sky, a wash of pale blue and white, infuses the scene with a calm, muted light, suggesting the quiet chill of a winter’s day. The trees, stripped of their leaves, appear delicate and fragile against the expansive backdrop, with branches that reach out thin and tangled. The snowy foreground is painted with thick, expressive strokes, giving the impression of freshly fallen, undisturbed snow. The overall atmosphere is one of silent solitude and wintry beauty.
