"K. Česonytė’s paintings are variations on Expressionist painting: characterized by a trembling touch, energetic brushstrokes, and expressive paint textures with which she often seems to 'sculpt' figures, objects, and landscape elements. In terms of genre, the scope of her work is quite traditional. Landscapes predominate, though the artist has also painted a series of still lifes, numerous urban scenes, and the occasional stylized portrait. Yet, other aspects of K. Česonytė’s painting align her less with classical modernist art and more with the imagery of the contemporary, media-saturated world. 'My tools are the computer and virtual space,' she says. The visual imagery in her paintings derives not from reality itself, but from a virtual—or secondary—reality. For this creative artist, however, that serves merely as a springboard or a starting signal that liberates both imagination and hand. In her work, this secondary reality—or a chance motif—and the artist’s imagination most often intertwine inseparably. Images suggested by modern media are transformed into authentic visions, deeply and sensitively experienced by the painter herself."

About this artwork+

The painting by Kristina Česonytė, titled "Modern Still-life," features a simple yet striking composition. It includes a vivid pink teapot, a soft blue teacup, and sliced lemons resting on a table. The background is bold and dark, contrasting sharply with the brightly colored objects. The teapot and cup are sketched with dynamic, scribbly lines that give a casual, almost unfinished look. Česonytė’s style in this work is expressive and loose. She doesn't focus on fine detail but rather on bold strokes and contrasting colors. This approach brings an energetic vibe to a traditional still life setup. The painting feels modern due to its abstract style and the way it plays with colors and textures. The choice of a dark, almost textured background helps the brightly colored objects to stand out, emphasizing their shapes and the light reflecting off them. This artwork blends traditional still life subjects with a contemporary execution, making it unique and captivating.
