"K. Česonytė’s paintings are variations on Expressionist painting: characterized by a trembling touch, energetic brushstrokes, and expressive paint textures with which she often seems to 'sculpt' figures, objects, and landscape elements. In terms of genre, the scope of her work is quite traditional. Landscapes predominate, though the artist has also painted a series of still lifes, numerous urban scenes, and the occasional stylized portrait. Yet, other aspects of K. Česonytė’s painting align her less with classical modernist art and more with the imagery of the contemporary, media-saturated world. 'My tools are the computer and virtual space,' she says. The visual imagery in her paintings derives not from reality itself, but from a virtual—or secondary—reality. For this creative artist, however, that serves merely as a springboard or a starting signal that liberates both imagination and hand. In her work, this secondary reality—or a chance motif—and the artist’s imagination most often intertwine inseparably. Images suggested by modern media are transformed into authentic visions, deeply and sensitively experienced by the painter herself."

About this artwork+

The painting depicts an anthropomorphic tiger sitting casually with one leg crossed over the other. The tiger is holding a cocktail glass delicately with both hands, close to its face as if about to take a sip. The character’s expression and posture embody a relaxed and indulgent mood. Its fur features streaks of orange and black, vivid against the muted, abstract patterned background of irregular off-white and grey shapes on a dark backdrop. The contrast between the lively figure and the subdued background highlights the tiger's contemplative enjoyment of the moment. The brushwork is expressive, adding a sense of movement and texture to the composition.
