"K. Česonytė’s paintings are variations on Expressionist painting: characterized by a trembling touch, energetic brushstrokes, and expressive paint textures with which she often seems to 'sculpt' figures, objects, and landscape elements. In terms of genre, the scope of her work is quite traditional. Landscapes predominate, though the artist has also painted a series of still lifes, numerous urban scenes, and the occasional stylized portrait. Yet, other aspects of K. Česonytė’s painting align her less with classical modernist art and more with the imagery of the contemporary, media-saturated world. 'My tools are the computer and virtual space,' she says. The visual imagery in her paintings derives not from reality itself, but from a virtual—or secondary—reality. For this creative artist, however, that serves merely as a springboard or a starting signal that liberates both imagination and hand. In her work, this secondary reality—or a chance motif—and the artist’s imagination most often intertwine inseparably. Images suggested by modern media are transformed into authentic visions, deeply and sensitively experienced by the painter herself."

About this artwork+

This painting called "Glasses" by Kristina Česonytė displays various wine glasses. Each glass is uniquely shaped and filled with red wine. The background is painted in a soft, grayish tone. The strokes seem loose and expressive, suggesting movement. Česonytė uses contrasting colors sharply, like the black outlines and the translucent reds of the wine. It feels modern. There's a sense of repetition that adds rhythm to the work as well. This style of painting blends abstract elements with a touch of realism, especially in how the glasses and their contents are depicted.
