"K. Česonytė’s paintings are variations on Expressionist painting: characterized by a trembling touch, energetic brushstrokes, and expressive paint textures with which she often seems to 'sculpt' figures, objects, and landscape elements. In terms of genre, the scope of her work is quite traditional. Landscapes predominate, though the artist has also painted a series of still lifes, numerous urban scenes, and the occasional stylized portrait. Yet, other aspects of K. Česonytė’s painting align her less with classical modernist art and more with the imagery of the contemporary, media-saturated world. 'My tools are the computer and virtual space,' she says. The visual imagery in her paintings derives not from reality itself, but from a virtual—or secondary—reality. For this creative artist, however, that serves merely as a springboard or a starting signal that liberates both imagination and hand. In her work, this secondary reality—or a chance motif—and the artist’s imagination most often intertwine inseparably. Images suggested by modern media are transformed into authentic visions, deeply and sensitively experienced by the painter herself."

About this artwork+

The painting captures a cluster of lilies positioned as if observed from above, creating a dynamic composition radiating outward from the center. Each flower, depicted with brisk, textured brushstrokes, varies in degrees of openness from fully bloomed to just beginning to unfurl. Subtle hues of ivory, yellow, and hints of green dominate the petals, lending the lilies a soft and muted appearance. Dark green and hints of brown in the leaves provide a bold contrast to the creamy petals. The background, a whirl of muted yellow and green tones, serves as a soft and indistinct backdrop that emphasizes the flowers at the forefront. The artist's signature, along with the date, is subtly integrated into the lower right part of the canvas, blending with the surrounding colors.
